Growing Sustainably Together – The Future Communities of Uptown

Major precinct-level urban developments like the Maungawhau City Rail Link development in Auckland present many opportunities and risks for the communities they are impacting. It’s important that Urban Designers are making good decisions for the future of the community, and responsive to what the communities need now.

As part of the Auckland Climate Festival, the Uptown Business Association and The Urban Advisory are hosting a panel discussion about what good design for the Maungawhau precinct would entail, and how it can have a positive impact for the future of the whole district. Uptown has developed a community vision for the future of their precinct and wider-area, to guide planners, urban designers, and delivery agencies in the area.

This panel discussion, Grow Sustainably Together – The future communities of Uptown, brings together some of Auckland’s finest urban designers and property experts to discuss how good decisions now can enable low-carbon, sustainable, high-quality living in the future.

The panel will include:

  • Matthew Prasad – Principal Urban Designer at The Urban Advisory: Matt bridges the divide between the realities of urban development, complex institutional needs, architectural flair, and best practice urban design and community building to create beautiful, innovative environments
  • Kent Lundberg – Technical Director at MRCagney: One of the leading walking and cycling experts in Auckland, Kent has particular expertise in liveable street design, public transport integration, cycleway planning and design and has worked on several town centre redevelopment projects.
  • Deborah Levy – Head of Property at The University of Auckland Business School: Deborah has several decades’ experience working in property and research, and is an expert in property decision making.
  • Marita Hunt – Urban Designer at MRCagney: Marita is a landscape architect with a decade’s worth of experience in urban design, masterplanning, and public realm design. She is interested in mode shift, sustainable transport, and the way good places can have a positive effect on people and communities

This event will be held at 5:30pm on 27 October 2022, at the Mind Lab (99 Khyber Pass Road) in Newmarket.
